The U.S. remains committed to engage North Korea in dialogue, despite its series of missile tests, and is waiting to hear back from Pyongyang.

Reuters cited U.S. special envoy for North Korea Sung Kim as making the statement at a virtual forum out of Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday, adding Washington has made a number of approaches and proposed dialogue on a range of topics.

North Korea missile tests, the latest of which came on Tuesday, was "destabilizing" and posed a regional threat, he said. Still, Washington would continue diplomatic efforts to denuclearize the Korean peninsula.

Earlier on Wednesday, the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) claimed that its Academy of Defence Science had test-fired a hypersonic Hwasong-8 missile from the northwestern Jagang Province.
