The nation’s first domestically produced rocket Nuri will launch on October 21.

The Ministry of Science and ICT unveiled the launch date during a meeting on Wednesday, saying the decision was made after taking into account technical preparations and optimal conditions for the event.

The launch is likely to take place between 3 and 7 p.m. though the final time will be based on weather conditions and the possibility of the rocket colliding with other space objects.

The ministry set October 22 to 28 as a preliminary period for the launch in a bid to be ready for any variables, including weather situations.

Currently, final inspections are under way at the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province. The rocket is roughly 47 meters long and weighs 200 tons, with a maximum diameter of three-point-three meters.

Nuri will be powered by four engines with 75 tons of thrust in the first stage, a single 75-ton-thrust engine in the second stage and an engine with seven tons of thrust in the third stage.
