South Korea’s top nuclear negotiator says declaring a formal end to the Korean War is the most effective way to build trust with North Korea, a position he says was explained in detail to the U.S.
Noh Kyu-duk made the remark at Incheon International Airport on Friday as he returned from Jakarta, Indonesia, where he held talks with his U.S. counterpart Sung Kim.
Noh said that, in addition to discussing ways to build trust with Pyongyang, he and Kim extensively shared views on ways to restart the Korean Peninsula peace process.
He also said they discussed ways to engage in humanitarian and cooperation projects with the North through joint efforts between countries as well as through international organizations.
Noh said the two sides agreed to continue discussions on such issues.
On North Korea firing an anti-aircraft missile, Noh said South Korea’s defense and intelligence authorities are currently analyzing the situation.
