The Foreign Ministry says it will continue seeking cooperation with the international community on rebuilding trust with North Korea, with consideration to the inter-Korean relational situation.
In a report to the National Assembly for a parliamentary audit on Friday, the ministry included joint humanitarian projects and a war-end declaration among the tasks towards achieving denuclearization and the establishment of lasting peace on the peninsula.
The Foreign Ministry pledged to continue consolidated efforts toward building a framework of engagement with North Korea, including reopening communication between Pyongyang and Washington.
As for the latest security situation, the ministry assessed that while the North conducted several missile tests, it also responded positively to President Moon Jae-in's proposal to declare a formal end to the Korean War.
With Japan, the ministry pledged to reinforce communication with the new Cabinet in resolving bilateral disputes and moving forward in future-oriented ties, while responding sternly to historical and territorial provocations.
Ahead of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties with China, the ministry pledged to seek further development of their strategic partnership through high-level dialogue and cooperation.
