A visiting Iraqi democratic figure has called for South Korea's cooperation in rebuilding his war-torn country.

Avid Faisal Amaid, leader of the Iraqi Democratic Union, said Monday that economic reconstruction in Iraq is urgently needed to stabilize the political upheaval in that country's society.

Imaid also said he hopes the South Korean troops to be dispatched to Iraq will also contribute to reconstruction efforts.

Commenting on Kirkuk, the region where the troops will be dispatched to, the IDU head advised the South Korean contingent to perform its mission on its own, and not in cooperation with American troops.
