U.S. Ambassador to Poland Christopher Hill has been designated the new U.S. Ambassador to South Korea.

Hill is replacing outgoing Ambassador Thomas Hubbard.

A diplomatic source said Wednesday that Ambassador Hill only needs a U.S. Senate confirmation hearing and an agreement on his appointment before he takes office.

However, the U.S. Embassy in Seoul declined to confirm the report.

Hubbard assumed the post in South Korea in May Two-thousand-one and his term expires in August.
