Opposition Camps to Discuss

Written: 2004-03-16 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

Opposition lawmakers are convening a meeting of the National Assembly's Culture and Tourism Committee to deal with what they called "biased coverage" of the impeachment crisis.

The parliamentary committee meeting will open with only the participation of lawmakers from the opposition parties, as legislators of the pro-government Uri Party have decided to boycott the session.

Opposition policymakers have summoned Korean Broadcasting Commission Chairman Noh Sung-dai and Korean Broadcasting System President Jung Yun-joo to attend the meeting.

The opposition parties complain that broadcasting companies have given excessive coverage to last week's impeachment of Roh Moo-hyun while failing to report on the fundamental reasons behind the parliamentary move.

Earlier on Monday, the leaders of the main opposition Grand National Party and the Millennium Democratic Party visited KBS and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation to protest the alleged unfair reporting of the impeachment and ensuing anti-impeachment protests.
