A high-level military delegation has concluded negotiations with the U.S. military in Baghdad over Seoul's planned dispatch of troops to post-war Iraq.

The two sides reportedly failed to narrow differences over pending issues, including the deployment method and scope of jurisdiction of South Korea's Zaitun unit to be dispatched to the northern region of Kirkuk.

An official familiar with the talks said Wednesday that during the discussions, the U.S. made an important proposal that would necessitate significant changes to Seoul's initial troop dispatch plan. He did not elaborate on the U.S. proposal.

The South Korean delegation reportedly said that it would relay its position to Washington on the proposal after consulting on the matter with the government.

Official say that as a result, the dispatch of South Korean troops, currently scheduled for the end of next month, may be delayed.
