S. Korean Female Diplomat to Chair WTO Financial Committee

A South Korean female diplomat has been elected as chairwoman of a financial sector in the World Trade Organization.

37-year-old Lee Mi-yon, the first secretary of the South Korean Embassy in Switzerland, was named the head of the WTO's Committee on Financial Services during an unofficial meeting among WTO member nations.

Lee will take office for one year beginning next week.

A veteran of trade affairs, Lee is the first Korean female diplomat to represent a sector of the WTO.

The WTO's financial services committee serves as a forum for discussions and examination of worldwide affairs related to financial services and trade.
