The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Sunday that North Korea fired an unidentified projectile eastward earlier in the day.

The JCS announced the launch in a text message to reporters, without disclosing further details.

Military authorities are reportedly analyzing the launch, such as range and type of projectile.

The projectile is presumed to be a ballistic missile as the military usually discloses launches to the media quickly when it detects ballistic missiles.

The latest launch comes 28 days after North Korea test launched a medium-range ballistic missile on January 30. It also marks the North's eighth provocation this year.
