The high speed railway connecting Seoul with Mokpo has been officially completed.

Acting president Goh Kun was among officials present at a dedication ceremony held on Wednesday at the southwestern city.

Goh said the Honam High Speed Railway will play a key role in helping the country emerge as a logistics and economic hub of Northeast Asia and a center of an envisaged Iron Silk Road, which would link South Korea with Europe via North Korea and China.

The bullet train will cut the travel time from the capital to the port city to three hours. The trip normally takes five hours by Saemaul Express Train, the fastest train currently in service.

The Honam high speed railway will officially begin service on April 1st.
