The government is mulling over an alternative site for a new American Embassy, effectively scrapping plans to allow the construction near an ancient palace.

A senior government official said Wednesday that the Cultural Properties Administration is highly likely to reject the previous plan for construction near Deoksu Palace in Seoul.

A U.S. Embassy official said, the embassy wants the new site to be near Deosku Palace, adding that it has no knowledge about the alternative site.
