The Supreme Court says it would void the election of candidates if they are found guilty of violating election laws.
The Supreme Court plans to impose a fine of more than one million won on candidates guilty of slandering and vote-buying during the campaign period.
Under the current election laws, lawmakers will have their election nullified if they were ordered to pay more than one million won for election law violations at a court.
The court also said plans to minimize the period leading to the final ruling of a case by allowing for trial in absentia, as stipulated in revised election laws.
In addition, the court said it will take stern measures against election candidates who register false academic backgrounds.
The Supreme Court plans to convene a meeting of heads of local district courts in charge of election on Friday to discuss issues related to the general election.
Meanwhile, the prosecution said it would immediately seek an arrest warrant against violators of election laws regardless of the election schedules.
