Chairman of Teachers' Union Set Free

The chairman of the Korean Teachers and Educational Workers Union Won Young-man was released after the prosecution rejected an arrest warrant against him.

Won was taken into custody on Friday after he expressed his support for the Democratic Labor Party on the union's internet website.

The head of the union's Seoul branch, who was detained for similar reasons was also set free on Saturday.

By law, civil servants, including teachers, must remain neutral on election-related issues.
