Inter-Korean Talks on Economic Cooperation to Reopen Thursday

South and North Korea will resume three days of working-level economic talks at the North's border city of Gaesong on Thursday.
On the agenda are relinking overland transportation routes between the two sides and flood prevention measures for the Imjin River, which flows southward across the inter-Korean border.
The talks were to open in the South last month, but were postponed after the North boycotted them. Pyongyang proposed to move the talks to the North, citing political tension stemming from Pres. Roh's impeachment and annual joint military exercises between South Korea and the U.S.
Seoul's chief delegate, Kim Kwang-rim, accepted the North's proposal in a telephone message sent through the truce village of Panmunjom.
South Korea also proposed to hold three days of separate working-level talks in the South's border city of Paju later this month to address settlements on cross-border business transactions.
