Acting President Goh Kun has ordered the Unification Ministry to propose high-level military talks with North Korea.

After receiving a briefing from the ministry Wednesday, Goh stressed the need for general-level talks between the two Koreas to build confidence and ease military tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

He said, in particular, that through such talks, South and North Korea should work to prevent accidental naval skirmishes along the western maritime border and build military trust between their two sides.

Goh also emphasized that both nations should continuously work to establish a foundation to peacefully resolve North Korea's nuclear issue through the six-party discussion framework. He added that South Korea needs to support the international nuclear talks by using inter-Korean dialogue channels.
