A major umbrella labor union, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) has agreed to open a dialogue channel with the Korea Employers Federation, a lobbying group of local businesses.
The leaders of the two groups announced the agreement after a meeting on Monday.
During the meeting, the federation's chief accepted the labor group's request that employers take measures to help non-regular contract workers cast ballots on election day. The federation said it would send letters to its 4,000 affiliate organizations encouraging them to make sure that their employees will not be barred from voting due to work schedules.
The union leader's visit was in response to the Federation chief's own visit to the KCTU early last month.
