3.1 Magnitude Earthquake Occurs Near Geomun Island

An earthquake with a magnitude of three-point-one occurred near Geomun Island in the country's southwestern waters on Wednesday morning.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA), the earthquake was reported at 7:55 a.m. about 104 kilometers south-southeast of Geomun Island, which is a part of Yeosu City, South Jeolla Province. 

The depth of the epicenter was estimated at eight kilometers.

The KMA said that the tremor is thought to have caused no damage.

Wednesday's earthquake is the second quake with a magnitude of three or higher that has hit the country this year.

Including the latest tremor, 45 quakes with a magnitude of two or higher have struck the country since the beginning of the year.
