Officials from South and North Korea and Russia will meet some time this month to discuss the linking of the Trans-Korean and Trans-Siberian Railways.

Russia's Itar-Tass news agency on Monday quoted Gennady Fadeev, president of state-run Russian Railways, as saying that the agreement had been reached after he met with South Korea's Ambassador to Moscow, Chung Tae-ik.

Fadeev said Russia wants a 'central route' that would pass through a logistics hub on the Korean Peninsula, but North Korea is hoping for an 'eastern route.' However, Ambassador Chung said the three countries should come up with measures that would ensure maximum profitability for all parties.

Officials from the Foreign and Finance Ministries as well as railway authorities of the three countries are slated to take part in the upcoming trilateral meeting.
