A coalition of civic groups has launched a campaign in opposition to the government's plan to send additional troops to Iraq.

The group, dubbed Emergency Action against Troop Dispatch, is encouraging social and civic leaders to sign a statement calling for the withdrawal of the troop deployment.

The group plans to collect at least ten thousand signatures from the public and submit the petition to the National Assembly to convince it to revoke its earlier approval of the troop dispatch.
