Labor Minister Kim Dae-hwan says he thinks the Democratic Labor Party's emergence in parliament will help stabilize labor-management relations in the long run.
Kim said during a lecture at the Federation of Korea Industries, a lobbying group of top business conglomerates, that the DLP would likely show a different approach than before to improving labor relations and worker rights, stressing that mutual understanding between workers and management is crucial to a stronger economy.
Concerning temporary non-regular workers, Kim said the government would seek to alleviate the relative imbalance between regular and non-regular temporary employees in terms of wage and labor flexibility.
Business leaders who were at the lecture voiced concerns that the government was not doing enough about unions seeking allegedly unreasonable demands in wage negotiations.
