In the United States ... the New York Times says a decisive victory for the pro-government Uri Party in Thursday's parliamentary elections has sent a clear message to the Constitutional Court to rule against the National Assembly's vote to impeach President Roh Moo-hyun.

The paper said the elections, in addition to placing parliament in the hands of the liberal-left, gave the president's supporters the control of the unicameral legislature for the first time in recent years.

The daily said public anger over the impeachment was the dominant campaign topic, overshadowing debates about North Korea's nuclear weapons program, South Korea's planned dispatch of troops to Iraq or the economic downturn.
