The head coach of the South Korean national football team, Humberto Coelho, has resigned from his post.

The Portuguese head coach announced his resignation Monday morning during a news conference at the Korea Football Association headquarters in downtown Seoul in which he revealed he had reached an agreement with the KFA to terminate his contract.

Coelho took over the post early last year, and his current contract was originally set to end after this year's Asian Cup, to be held in China from mid-July to the first week of August.

He had been under pressure to resign after a series of poor performances by the Korean national team.

Under Coelho, South Korea played 18 matches over fourteen months, winning nine, tying three and losing six.
