Japan Hopes for Breakthrough in Abductee Standoff During Kim

Japan is hoping that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's visit to China will provide a breakthrough in stalled negotiations on the repatriation of Japanese abductees from the communist North.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that China understands Tokyo's view on the issue and that Kim may express his willingness to approach the abductee issue along with the nuclear standoff in a positive light.
