Trade talks on the liberalization of agricultural goods recently got underway at the World Trade Organization headquarters in Geneva.

Agricultural officials from participating countries are meeting in both general and group sessions to discuss the basic framework of global market access, government subsidies and export competition.

South Korea is included in the G-10 group of agricultural importers along with Japan, Switzerland and Norway.

The South Korean delegation is expected to reiterate the necessity of continuing the nation's current protection of domestic agricultural products at talks with members of the G-20 group, made up of developing countries including Brazil, India and China.

The latest round of trade talks, which opened on Tuesday, is part of the Doha Development Agenda negotiations on agriculture, services and environment.
