A survey finds a majority of smokers in South Korea would quit smoking if cigarette prices go up to 5,000 won a pack or roughly four dollars and 40 cents.

According to the survey released by the Health and Welfare Ministry Wednesday, 56 percent of respondents said they would kick the habit altogether, while 37 percent said they would continue smoking despite the price hike.

The ministry plans to raise the prices of cigarettes by 500 won every year beginning this year until it reaches a maximum of 5,000 won per pack.

The most expensive brand currently on the market is 2,200 won.
