Chinese Official: Working-level Talks for Nuke Discussions Likely to Open Next Month

A high-ranking Chinese official says working group nuclear talks will likely take place around next month.

The official made the comments Sunday in the southern Chinese resort of Hainan Island where he was attending the Boao Forum for Asia.

He said progress is being made in the situation surrounding the North's nuclear impasse.

The official's comments came after North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's recent visit to Beijing last week. During his three-day stay in China, Kim and Chinese President Hu Jintao agreed to try to resolve the nuclear dispute peacefully through the six-way nuclear talks, raising expectations for a breakthrough in the 19-month nuclear impasse.
