Officials from the two Koreas will meet in the North's border city of Gaesong Tuesday to work out emergency relief measures for victims of a train blast.

The two sides will focus their discussions on the provision of necessary materials and equipment required for restoration of damaged facilities, the means of transportation for such materials and ways to help the victims of Thursday's train accident.

The South Korean government is expected to reiterate its request for the North's cooperation to deliver emergency aid via a cross-border overland route. Seoul will also exchange views on its proposal to send a hospital ship and medical staff to the region of the blast site.

Tuesday's inter-Korean relief talks will be the second such talks since 1984 when the two sides met to discuss relief measures following a flooding disaster in the South.

Earlier on Monday, the North rejected the South's offer for overland transportation of relief materials. If the North again turns down Seoul's proposal, South Korean aid will likely be shipped to the North by sea later this week from the western port city of Incheon.
