Seven North Korean escapees have been captured by local police in Thailand's northern province of Chianglai.

Thai police said Tuesday they had captured the escapees after they crossed Thailand's border from Myanmar last Wednesday.

The police said they had levied a fine on the escapees for illegally entering the country. However, the North Koreans will remain detained for 25 days, as they have been unable to pay the penalty.
