The two Koreas and Russia have held their first discussions on a proposed connection of the Trans-Korean and the Trans-Siberian Railways.
Officials from the construction, foreign and unification ministries as well as railway-related experts from the three countries met in the headquarters of state-run Russian Railways in Moscow Wednesday. They discussed ways to modernize North Korea's railway system and methods of funding the project for linking the two railways.
South Korea was represented by a delegation of 16 headed by Vice President of the Korea Transport Institute, Lee Han-joon, while the North was represented by a 7-member delegation.
The three countries plan to hold a series of such trilateral talks, which could lead to higher-level talks among transportation ministers if the lower level discussions produce tangible results.
