A South Korean cargo ship loaded with one million dollars worth of relief aid for victims of last week's deadly Ryongchon train blast has arrived at the North Korean port of Nampo.

An official of Hanjin Transportation Co. said the 1,500-ton freighter, which set sail early Wednesday with the South's first batch of relief goods, arrived at the outer Nampo port at around seven Thursday morning.

The relief goods, including emergency medical supplies, instant noodles, bottled water and blankets, are expected to reach Ryongchon, 250 kilometers from the port, via overland route later Thursday.

A second ship loaded with 780 thousand dollars worth of relief supplies will leave for the North late Thursday and is expected to arrive at Nampo port the following evening.

Seoul is considering a plan to ship construction materials and equipment worth 20 million dollars to the North by mid-May to help rebuild the devastated town of Ryongchon.
