The governor of South Jeolla province, Park Tae-young, threw himself into Seoul's Han River in an apparent suicide Thursday.

The 63-year-old Park had been under investigation on allegations that he was involved in corruption while serving as chief director of the National Health Insurance Corporation from 2000 to 2001.
