Several thousand workers and students held an annual rally Friday to mark the eve of Labor Day.

The mood of the celebration was boosted by the recent, first-ever election of outspokenly pro-union party members to the National Assembly.

Over three thousand people applauded and chanted slogans on the campus of Chung-ang University in central Seoul, welcoming five of the ten lawmakers-elect of the Democratic Labor Party.

A key official of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, one of South Korea's umbrella labor unions, expressed hope for a significant improvement in the country's labor conditions following the DLP's parliamentary election victory.
