North Korea's parliamentary leader will join South and North Korean workers in a joint Labor Day celebration in Pyongyang.
The chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Kim Yong-nam, will attend a dinner Saturday evening welcoming the 310-member South Korean delegation that arrived in Pyongyang the previous day on a direct charter flight from Seoul.
The welcoming dinner is to take place at the People's Cultural Palace in central Pyongyang at seven p.m.
Kim's attendance is seen as a rare move, leading some to speculate that it could be a gesture of gratitude for South Korean aid following last week's train explosion in the North's city of Ryongchon.
The South Korean delegation, comprised of members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Federation of Korean Trade Unions, delivered 100 thousand dollars worth of relief supplies upon their arrival in Pyongyang.
The joint May Day celebration will include a marathon event and cultural performances by representatives of both Koreas.
