A team of government officials has left for China's border city of Dandong to coordinate relief efforts in the wake of last month's train explosion in Ryongchon.

The group, comprised of five officials from the Unification and Foreign Affairs ministries as well as the Red Cross, will stay in the northeastern Chinese city near the North Korean border for a week before returning home on Tuesday.

The team's departure came a day after a South Korean cargo plane delivered relief aid, including some 70 to 80 tons of medical supplies, to Pyongyang for a second time Tuesday.

The South is planning to deliver a further 25 million dollars worth of aid in separate shipments to the North.

Total relief aid from Seoul would thus come to some 26 million dollars, nearly four times the combined aid provided or pledged by the rest of the world.
