Acting President Goh Kun has marked Children's Day with a pledge to reduce by half the number of children-related accidents by 2007.

In a speech marking the 82nd Children's Day Wednesday, Goh said the government will aim to reduce the number of accidents involving children by 10 percent every year to reach the goal of cutting such numbers by half by 2007.

Goh also expressed sadness over the children who were injured from last month's train explosion in the North, and expressed hope for their quick recovery.

Meanwhile, various colorful events took place across the nation in celebration of Children's Day. In Seoul, diverse performances, ranging from musicals to plays, were staged in the plaza in front of City Hall as well as amusement parks.
