S. Korea, U.S. to Hold Military Talks in Washington

Military officials from South Korea and the United States will convene in Washington Thursday. Topping the agenda at the 8th round of Future of the Alliance Policy Initiative talks is a final agreement for relocating the Yongsan Garrison in Seoul out of the capital city.

The two sides are expected to hold in-depth discussions on the issue of relocation expenses, estimated at around three to four billion U.S. dollars. South Korea is to bear all relocation costs under a 1990 accord, which many South Koreans believe is unfair.

During the two-day meeting, the two countries also discuss the handover of ten major military duties from the United States to South Korea beginning this year.
