South Korea is delivering relief supplies to the victims of a train blast in North Korea via a land route for the first time.

The relief convoy of cargo trucks left Munsan in the South Friday morning over a cross-border route to Gaesong, where North Korean authorities will take over for delivery to Ryongchon, the site of last month's devastating rail blast.

The relief package, worth some one billion won, is mostly comprised of 50 blackboards and 1,500 sets of desks, chairs and other supplies needed for rebuilding schools that were destroyed in the train disaster.

South Korea will also donate to the North the 20 trucks that transported the relief materials to be used in reconstruction and restoration efforts.

The latest delivery is South Korea's fifth shipment of relief supplies for victims of the Ryongchon train blast.
