Washington says it will focus on clarifying its stance on North Korea's nuclear issue at the six-party working-level nuclear talks slated to begin Wednesday in Beijing.
U.S. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said Monday that at the working group meeting, the U.S. plans to go into a little more detail, clarify things and answer questions from other delegations.
Asked about the main objective of the meeting, Boucher said that at the upcoming session, Washington would "make absolutely clear that complete, verifiable and irreversible are key terms and that those are the parameters of what the U.S. expects to achieve.
He added that the meeting gives Washington a chance to state again that it doesn't offer any rewards or inducements for North Korea to come into compliance with its obligations.
Boucher also didn't rule out the possibility of bilateral talks between the U.S. and the North, saying that he wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. delegation had meetings within the context of the six-party talks with individual delegations, including a North Korean delegation.
