Amid a long-standing dispute over the name of the sea between Korea and Japan, a German publisher specializing in maps published a map which uses both "East Sea" and "Sea of Japan."

The map printed by KKF, a Dusseldorf-based map publisher, last week went on sale in specialized bookstores across Germany.

The map uses "Ostmeer" which means East Sea first and "Japanishe Meer" which means Sea of Japan next. In its previous maps, the publisher referred to the body of water only as the Sea of Japan.

The map is expected to have an impact on the dispute over the naming of the sea as KKF's sales of maps amount to hundreds of thousands of copies a year.
