2.6 Magnitude Earthquake Occurs Near Jeju Island

A two-point-six magnitude earthquake occurred in waters off the southern island of Jeju on Wednesday morning.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the earthquake was reported at 12:45 a.m. about 108 kilometers west of Seogwipo City on the island, with the depth of the epicenter estimated at 14 kilometers.

The weather agency said that the tremor is not thought to have caused damage.

Wednesday’s quake is the 24th to have struck the Korean Peninsula since the beginning of the year with a magnitude of two or higher.
