S. Korea's Iraq Troop Dispatch Delayed

South Korea's planned dispatch of additional troops to Iraq is looking to get postponed again.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it may take up to two to three more months to discuss South Korea's troop deployment with the local government in Iraq's northern Kurdish region.

With the protraction of the negotiations, the deployment of Zaitun troops which was originally set for this or next month will inevitably be delayed until after July or August.

The Director of the ministry's North American Bureau, Kim Sook, said in a radio interview Wednesday that South Korea will stand by its commitment to send more troops to the Gulf nation as promised and preparations are underway for the deployment.
