President of the South Korean Red Cross Lee Yoon-gu will visit Ryongchon, the North Korean city that was leveled by a devastating train blast last month.
Lee will leave on June 5th for a three-day trip to the northwestern border city as a member of a delegation to be sent by the International Federation of the Red Cross.
Lee's trip would be the first official visit by a South Korean to Ryongchon since the April 22nd explosion.
The delegation led by IFRC Secretary-General Markku Niskala will include high-ranking officials from the agency's regional chapters in Sweden, Canada, Britain and Norway.
The delegation plans to fly to North Korea from Beijing but it has yet to receive approval from the North Korean authorities.
Meanwhile, a coalition of 50 South Korean civic groups is to deliver 2.6 billion won or two million dollars worth of clothes, soybeans and other items for victims of the train explosion on May 20th.
