Another delegation of government and military officials will soon depart for Iraq's northern Kurdish region in preparation for the deployment of additional troops.

South Korea's Ambassador to Iraq, Lim Hong-jae, had visited Irbil, the prospective dispatch site for the Zaitun military unit, on Tuesday. A government official said the ambassador had secured an approval from local Kurdish leaders for the use of an airport in the region.

The delegation is to leave after reviewing a report submitted by Ambassador Lim on his talks with the local authorities.

South Korea was to send the 3,000-strong unit to the northern Iraqi area in April to help with reconstruction in the war-torn nation. The dispatch has been postponed several times due to a worsening security situation in the region.
