South and North Korea have agreed to build an inter-Korean communication network across the Demilitarized Zone.

At two rounds of working-level talks on the matter last month, the two sides agreed to link the North's Gaesong industrial complex and South Korea with optic fiber cables.

The first phase of the project calls for laying 100 communication circuits for South Korean firms which will move into a pilot complex in the joint industrial park around September.

South Korea has already finished laying underground cables in the southern side of the Military Demarcation Line.
