High-ranking officials from Seoul and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will open two days of talks in Seoul Monday to discuss pending regional issues.

The South Korean delegation will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Soo-hyuck while ASEAN will be represented by Myanmar's Deputy Foreign Minister, Khin Maung Win.

The two sides will discuss a wide array of issues, ranging from the political situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the ASEAN region to ways to promote bilateral cooperation.

Such high-level consultative talks between the two sides aimed at facilitating bilateral cooperation were first launched in 1993 in Malaysia.
