Bus Drivers in Daegu, Gwangju in Wage Hike Walkout

Unionized bus drivers in Daegu and Gwangju are on strike after talks on their demand for a wage hike collapsed Monday night.

Some two thousand-400 city buses have stopped services in the two cities.

City authorities are mobilizing chartered buses to reduce inconvenience for passengers during rush hour. Officials also lifted the ban on private cab drivers that obligates them to stop operations every two days.

Meanwhile, in the central city of Daejon, labor and management officials reached an agreement last night on three to nine percent wage hikes, avoiding a threatened walkout and disruption of public transportation.
