The United States has renewed its calls for North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons program in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner.

State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher said in a regular news briefing that what is clear is that everyone wants a complete disarmament of North Korea.

Boucher went on to say that the U.S. wants the North's nuclear disarmament and subsequent international verification to fall under the general rubric of denuclearization.

The spokesman dismissed reports that Seoul and Tokyo are at odds with the United States over the North Korean nuclear issue. He added, however, that different countries do have different attitudes as to the appropriate time in the diplomatic process to provide assistance or support for North Korea.
