South Korea is pushing to lower the legal adult age from the current 20 years to 19 to reflect rapid social changes.

The Ministry of Justice said Wednesday it will soon revise the Civil Law to lower the legal age by one year.

A public notice on the revision of the Civil Law will be made by the end of this month, with its draft finalized Wednesday.

The revised law, if approved by the National Assembly, will allow all South Korean men and women over 19 to vote and independently engage in legally-binding contracts.

It will also allow those over 19 to marry without their parents' consent.
