Ruling and opposition parties are pushing to lower the legal voting age in line with a decision to lower the legal adult age from the current 20 to 19.

On Wednesday, the Justice Ministry announced the decision to revise the Civil Law to lower the age of adulthood in keeping with the times.

The ruling Uri Party's deputy floor leader said it is natural to lower the legal voting age to 19 simultaneously with a revision to lower the legal adult age to 19.

The main opposition Grand National Party, which had been hesitant on the matter, is considering pushing forward on the proposed revisions to the Civil Law.

A public notice on the revision of the Civil Law will be made by the end of this month, with its draft finalized Wednesday.
